My father-in-law's grandfather, Nicholas Breidenbach, immigrated from Germany, arriving in New York City on 28 Dec 1881. He was on the ship Schiedam, which had departed from Rotterdam. Nicholas immigrated by himself, and was born about 1860. He did not stay in touch with his family he left in Germany. Circa 1888, Nicholas married Catharine Noah and they settled in Castleton on Hudson, Rensselaer County, New York. They raised a large family there and Nicholas passed away in 1936. Nicholas changed his surname from Breidenbach to Bridenbeck sometime n he late 1890's.

Hi! I added text to the companion category for your name study (Category:Breidenbach Name Study). Feel free to edit it. The default for the template is to add the main category, but you can add a line to have a different category. See the ONS template page for details. Give me a holler if you have any questions about categorization.

I also created a redirect, so Project:Breidenbach (the link for the button from the Breidenbach surname page) brings you to this page.

Cheers, Liz
